Diva Starz: The Lost 2000s Robot Dolls
Переглядів 42 тис.5 місяців тому
Diva Starz were a peculiar line of robot dolls from the technology-obsessed early 2000s. With their arguably creepy designs, they could talk and interact with you in unique ways. While a nostalgic relic of the past today, there's an interesting story behind how and why the dolls evolved, including controversies, outrage and fights between doll companies. There's also a variety of lost media, in...

The Pet Game Craze of the 2000s

With gaming becoming more casual in the 2000s, especially on Nintendo’s Wii and DS systems, it lead to a lot of obscure games for children. Unfortunate fact: Before the series was cancelled there were two more movies in development and it was rumored that they would be focused on Iridessa and Silvermist.

To answer the question about Ponyville lining up with Canterlot High, Ponyville and Canterlot are actually very close to each other, so much so that Celestia is able to point to where it would be when Granny Smith talks about the story of Ponyville’s founding in Family Appreciation Day. Since Friendship Games seems to imply that Crystal Prep is in the city and Canterlot High is in the suburbs, it’s not a stretch to say that Canterlot High is roughly where Ponyville would be since this city is the human world equivalent of Canterlot. Since it’s the human world, there obviously isn’t a place called PONYville, so Ponyville and Canterlot are just merged into one. Sci-Twi goes to Crystal Prep, however, because of how Shining Armor lives in the Crystal Empire in the pony world. She’s staying with her family instead of being in Canterlot, which makes sense considering she wouldn’t be under Celestia’s tutelage in the human world. I hope this helps.

always irks when i come across bab content and the inevitable comments of several ppl like ''EX / EMPLOYEE HERE!'' And its just....them weirdly riding for the company. let me tell you the truth, working there is not fun. you most likely wont have a good manager and all they care about is monitoring you at all times for sales goals. sure, typical retail but yes they will act like thats not the case hidden under the typical cheery façade,.and not to mention their disregard for their seasonal employees...it sucks because this was a franchise so dear to my own childhood its only now overshadowed by having actually worked there. ironically I would have even continued to work there had they not lied about me having the opportunity to be full time and only gave me a day notice i was in fact not being rehired and would not be coming in anymore.

Aaaaa I was OBSESSED w the Disney fairies when I was little this video makes me happy. I had a lot of the toys and I still think I have a rani doll somewhere, I had the plush house toys, I read a few of the books, and I watched the movies over and over. Vidia was probably my first fictional crush lol. I’ve always had a silly little dream to make my own reboot of this, like how there’s been reboots of mlp and the she ra reboot and stuff hehe

Initially, I thought "Hey, cottagecore is still big right now, they should bring back more elements of the original few designs", but then I realized something. Cottagecore appeals to adults because it offers an escapist fantasy that suits our desires. The dream of building a cozy little home in some picturesque forest, far away from the stressful world of rent payments and 9-5s. Children probably don't dream of owning a house with a compost bin. Children dream of going on adventures, or being famous, or being cool mature grown ups. They probably don't want what I want. With that in mind, I think the new Strawberry Shortcake is a great redesign. It's appealing, diverse, and adventuresome. It's just not for me, in the most literal sense.

Your voice is so relaxing to listen to coming from someone who's neurodivergent. Honestly, these videos deserve way more views, in my opinion. They're so thoroughly researched and every segment is given just the right amount of time that nothing ever overstays its welcome. I've watched your videos since I came across your "Disney Fairies" review and even as an autistic adult male, learning the history behind nostalgic toys, whether made for boys or girls in mind, is fascinating. If I had to pick out my favourite of your videos though, it'd be the Build-a-Bear one. If I'm being honest, you're one of the main reasons why I collect figurines, keychains and other things that people might consider childish, or ignorant of my age, but I don't care. One of these days, I'm planning to deep-dive into Power Rangers, Thundercats, Transformers, Action Man and other boy-centric material as a fun contrast. But honestly, being a former brony, I've always wanted to collect the ponies too. I love the visually appealing designs each unicorn, pegasus and earth pony has, and the uniqueness of each of their names. Less so with Bratz, Barbie and the Monster High/Ever After High brands, but I understand their appeal. Littlest Pet Shop always felt unisex to me, even if it was targeted towards girls in mind. Regardless, I've remained a firm subscriber of your videos for a long time, and its thanks to your content that I've subscribed to similar channels like LulaLoopsey and Athena P.

Also, I never realised that "Blythe" from the Littlest Pet Shop television series got her name from this doll brand. (Unless that's coincidental). But considering the way she's designed in the show with the big eyes and small petite mouth, I'm pretty sure that might be the case. Which would fit quite well given their collaboration. Edit: I was right! 😂 And, I guess I'm the only one who likes the G4 designs. But considering the fact that I also prefer the G4 designs of the ponies, that isn't too much of a surprise. However, there is a lot that I like about every generation. The simplicity of G1, the adventurousness of G2, the colourfulness of G3 and then, the vibrancy in G4. I haven't seen much in regards to G5 on LPS's side, but I feel like the theme nowadays would be Nostalgia, since that's how MYM and TYT feel to me.

My only interactions with the franchise were hearing about it from my boomer and Gen X family members and receiving the Strawberry Shortcake lipbalm keychain at McDonald's. But now I'm intrigued! They're super cute and the theming is well executed. I think my favorite designs are from the not-Gen 2, but I do appreciate Gen 2 as well 😊

I had the PC game as a child. I think they could make a comeback honestly, but they do badly need a bit of a redesign because their legs look like they're being poured into their shoes. I remember being distinctly uninterested in Miranda when she was added to the website lol. I confused her with Alexa. Ahhh I remember the webisodes. :O

oh my god there was this gameboy game that I played on the DSi called "dogz" that I dont think was within the "petZ" franchise but was so unbelievably charming. It was all 8-bit, you got to pick your character, and then adopt a dog from the pound and bond with them until you had to GIVE YOUR DOG BACK. It was HEARTWRENCHING. I can literally smell this game though. I want to play it again so bad!

There is something my brain doesn't like about any character design where the eyes are so low that they match or dip below the level of the nose; Betty Boop, the MLP reboots, Blythe, Funkos. Don't like the appearance of any of them. HOWEVER, while they are not my cup of tea, I am not a real hater. I do love toys and this was a fascinating deep dive into this interesting doll. I can see how the eye gimmick lends itself to photography as you can have them looking in different directions. The original outfits are pretty cute and the way customizers are going ham on them is amazing. Customizing dolls is super fun. Can confirm. Toys and dolls are a fun, harmless hobby and it's sad that adults get so much flack for being into them.

I like that in the movies fairy wings are reminiscent of cat and dog tails and how it can represent an emotion. Like when they get scared or worried their wings go down, when they are content their wings flap slowly, and when they are actively engaged their wings flap quickly

I think the Pixie hollow books (including the Fairy Dust trilogy) were intended to take place after the original Peter Pan Book, written in 1911 (It is a darker book than the Disney version). The 6 Tinkerbell films were prequels to the Disney Peter Pan film, so they are much lighter in nature. So personally I don't think the books and films exist in the same continuity, but thats just my guess. Also, in my opinion the Pirate fairy was the weakest of the 6 films, because Zarina knew that stealing the pixie dust would doom fairy society but she did it anyway, and in my opinion she was justifiabley fired from her job. It was obvious that Fairy Gary would've come and given her another chance after some time. Also, her plan would've doomed our world too if fairies couldn't come and change the seasons. So Zarinas plan would've killed lots of fairies (because they couldn't escape hawks and their society would collapse), and would've killed millions of humans (because Earth becomes seasonably locked resulting in famine and death), Zarina only feels bad AFTER Hook turns on her, so she gets no sympathy from me.

There is absolutely no basis for this hc other then my own life experiences, but i always imagined that sunset shimmer was put into the foster care system after the school found out she was homeless. More an au then a hc but it made young me feel more represented and less alone in the world lol
